CIRB Legislative Goals
- CIRB supports the elimination of ad hoc disaster payments by maintaining a privatized, actuarially sound program backed by federal catastrophic reinsurance.
- CIRB supports a crop insurance program which provides for private sector input into program planning and design.
- CIRB supports continued simplification of the federal crop insurance program.
- CIRB supports increased private risk bearing, coupled with increase opportunity for gain.
- CIRB supports a crop insurance program that promotes positive competition and is crafted to encourage participation by both small and large risk bearing entities.
- CIRB supports the private crop-hail product and opposes any legislation which might have a negative impact on it.
- CIRB will provide leadership to the future of crop insurance.

CIRB TESTIFIES BEFORE HOUSE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE HEARING On Thursday, July 22, 2010, Steve Rutledge of Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa represented CIRB at a House Agriculture Risk Management Subcommittee hearing on the state of the crop insurance industry. At the start, Full Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas (R-OK) pointed out that a hearing would have been more practical during the Standard Reinsurance Agreement negotiation as opposed to afterwards; Subcommittee Chairman Leonard Boswell (D-IA) replied that Congress can still have its say "before all is said and done." read more...
