Jul. 2, 2009 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) -- Alabama's deadline for crop certification is July 15.
Farmers are required to file an accurate report to the local Farm Service Agency office for all crops and land usage, including failed acreage, every year.
All cropland on the farm must be reported to get benefits from the following: the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Payment Program, Average Crop revenue Election Program, marketing assistance loans, loan deficiency payments, Conservation Reserve Program, Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program, and Livestock Forage Program.
Crop certification reporting may also be referred to as crop reporting or acreage reporting.
Report crop loss
Deborah T. Williams, the Alabama FSA acting state executive director, said that, in order to remain eligible for benefits, farmers must report crop losses, including losses insured under Federal Crop Insurance and Non-insured Assistance Program, within 15 days of the date the damage occurred or became apparent.
Farmers may file the required FSA-578 certification report at the local FSA county office.
