Nebraska farmers assessing hail damage

Jun 3, 2009      Omaha World Herald

GENEVA, Neb. (AP) - Farmers in one southeast Nebraska county are assessing crop damage caused by a hail storm this week. Farm Service Agency officials say about 10,000 acres of corn and soybeans were damaged in Fillmore County on Monday night.

Officials say two narrow bands of hail stripped crops, while neighboring fields were untouched.

Fillmore County FSA Executive Director Ryne Norton says the extent of the damage won't be known for a couple of weeks. But he says farmers should be talking to their crop insurers in case the crops don't rebound.
