CIRB accomplishes what one company acting alone would find difficult if not impossible to do in the federal arena. CIRB monitors the activities of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) and encourage it to make sure that the federal program's rules and regulations are consistent with sound insurance practices. CIRB is the only trade association that advocates for the wholly private crop-hail insurance program and works to assure that the policies of the Federal government do not have a negative effect on this line of insurance. Through its Washington office CIRB provides representation for members by maintaining a continuous liaison with legislators and regulators. CIRB members have frequent contact with members of Congress and their staff in order to educate them on the importance of crop insurance and the Association's positions. Such educational efforts include CIRB's bi-annual crop insurance briefing for staff members of both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees. CIRB's lobbying efforts are enhanced by the CIRB-PAC, which contributes to campaigns of Congressional candidates who support the maintenance of an actuarially sound non-intrusive crop insurance program. Interests of CIRB members are represented by staff and/or qualified CIRB members who testify before congressional committees and at various field hearings throughout the country. |
